Visiting Artist Lecture Series – November

Monday, November 2, 2026, 12:05pm

TO: Campus Community
FR: Ed Beebout, Chair of the Art, Media, and Communication department

You are warmly invited to attend the Visiting Artist Lecture Series hosted by the Art Studio program. All talks are in Art 102 from noon to 12:50 p.m. and are open to the public.

Thursday, November 5 — Artist talk with Kal Spelletich. During his 30-year career in the Bay Area, Spelletich has been a pivotal figure in the machine art and robotics community. He frequently collaborates with scientists, engineers, musicians, and audiences to realize projects. His machines address the poetic nature of technology and scientific discovery, and metaphorically illustrate how, just as movement, light and sound waves can be sent into the world, so can ideas and emotions radiate out, with the potential for activating positive change.

Thursday, November 12 – Artist talk with Stacey Steers. Steers is known internationally for her process-driven, labor intensive films composed of thousands of hand-made works on paper. Her work employs images appropriated from early cinematic sources, from which she constructs original, lyrical narratives.

Visit the visiting artist webpage for a complete fall schedule.
