The Sonoma State University Office of Tribal Relations and Center for Environmental invites students, faculty, staff, and community members to a special screening of “Episode 1: First Contact” from the documentary series “People of the West: An Indigenous History of California.”

The documentary explores the first encounters between Indigenous peoples and European settlers in California, centering Indigenous perspectives and examining the complex histories and lasting impacts of colonization.

This event provides an opportunity for the campus community to deepen its understanding of California's Indigenous history, engage with Native perspectives, and reflect on the connections between history, land, and contemporary Indigenous communities.

In addition to the screening, attendees are invited to participate in a nature walk and enjoy dinner together.
